7% Fewer Professional Archaeologists in the UK

There were now, we were told by the BBC, 7% fewer professional archaeologists than however many months ago and indeed archaeology was "more reliant on volunteers" than it had ever been before:

  1. When you rely on volunteering as your main means of access you only support people who have the resources to volunteer. Professionals should be there to support volunteers (and those who can't volunteer) not the other way around.

  2. agree with Neil - not everyone is lucky enough to volunteer. It makes the industry 'exclusive'. Something that we'd hate to see.
